The film was released in 1968...33 years before 2001.

The film opens with the MGM (lion) logo M(13)G(7)M(13) = 33

The Brain...HAL 9000 (production number3) = HAL 9000 3 = 33
(HAL became operational on 12 January 1997 (1992 in the film) at the HAL Laboratories in Urbana Illinois as production number 3.)

 

The 10 spheres and 22 paths of the sephiroth, giving us the 32 & leading to the temple of wisdom 'the skull', as the 33rd.  The same idea encapsulated in the caduceus o Hermes/Thoth.

Sothic Cycle = 1461 (egyptian years)  and is divided into 4 quadrants 365.25 years, which is analogous to the earth year of 365.25 days.
He was protector and patron of travelers, herdsmen, thieves,orators and wit, literature and poets, athletics and sports, invention and trade. In some myths he is a trickster, and outwits other gods for his own satisfaction or the sake of humankind. His attributes/symbols include, the ram, the herma, the rooster and the tortoise, purse or pouch, winged sandals, winged cap, and his main symbol was the herald's staff, the Greek kerykeion or Latin caduceus which consisted of two snakes wrapped around a winged staff. In the Roman adaptation of the Greek pantheon, Hermes was identified with the Roman god Mercury, who, though inherited from the Etruscans, developed many similar characteristics, such as being the patron of commerce.
Bear the above in mind, with reference to what you see in the film.

 Of course...from that you should already appreciate that Hermes/Thoth mapped all the heavens and constellations and therefore the Zodiac.
Yes...ubiquity should be his middle name!
 The Egyptians based their precise 'cycle of time' on the celestial movement of a particular star and that star was Sirius/Sothis/Sopdet...the sothic cycle.  The old Egyptian calendar system used to use a year of 360 days...a later revision made this 365 and they used to have 5 of those additional days as a period of mourning....mourning for what? (perhaps the deluge/flood which caused the death of God/King Osiris)

That 'new cyle' was also mythologised into a  'death & rebirth' religion (probably in reference to the event) and was encapsulated into the 'trinity myth' of Osiris, Isis & Horus, and with Set representing the 'terror'.  

Osiris (commemorated as 'the sun' after the old epoch and probably an 'actual' mortal king who was killed in the event, before being deified afterwards) is destroyed by Set (the terror), albeit only temporarily...Isis (her essence encapsulated into the moon) with the help of Thoth/Hermes/Mercury (the only operative god!) was able to restore 'the sun' via Horus (Osiris Risen).  This is where the word 'horizon' originates...horus and risen, the daily function of the sun (a clockwork orange) and the 'sun-Set' perhaps a clue to the old myth of the temporary dying sun via the terror event (day to night).  The sun rises in the 'east' (light birth) and sets in the west (light death).

The winter solstice, where the sun is furthest away from the earth (and therefore can be considered to be dying symbolically) before returning (and therefore can be considered being reborn).
The 'post-deluge/flood' led to a deification of Osiris...for he was a representation of this Sun and Isis was the moon.  Osiris IS the 'dying god' (in this csse, as the image of the sun) and is dying on the winter solstice...only to be born again (closer to the earth) as Horus, the new sun risen or Osiris Risen.



As it is above (planetary heavens)...so it will be below. (on earth, for us).

It was taught in the mystery schools that when the planets aligned there was a deluge/inundation (something like the biblical flood), perhaps this might even esoterically refer to a flood of information via the wormhole...galactic centre point alignment etc...worth pondering imo.

 What needs to be understood is that some of these 'myth' stories where more than just 'myth'...they were in fact, veiled references to astronomic and celestial phenomena.  One obvious example being the Bible's book of Revelation and its myriad of veiled references to these astronomic and celestial phenomena.


What might this mean?


What I am saying is that, perhaps prior to this 'epoch' there was a different one and that a celestial event led to it's downfall (represented by Set), after the said event...calendars were found to be wildly inaccurate (after having checked the movements of sirius) due to the event's effect on the planet and the planets elliptical orbit around the sun...the orbit was now slightly wider and therefore the system of time would need to be realigned.  If not corrected, the seasons and calendar would be massively off-set in a relatively short period of time.

 I think this alignment before the 'stargate' sequence is particularly suggestive...what happens to Bowman here in the space ether...is what will happen on earth...that is the essence of what I THINK is being suggested.

This idea could possibly centre around a few things...a 'raised level in human consciousness' at a particular point in time & space or perhaps an actual 'celestial creationist event' that is constantly being referenced or maybe just significant 'earth changes' (sun cme's etc) or maybe even something to do with the 'alien connection'/'wormholes & cern'.  These are not my ideas, but are guestimated responses based upon the deciphered available data.  Of course, the most likely result for Dec 21st 2012 is that nothing will happen in any real literal sense and that the date is merely a symbolic marker of sorts or a transition point.

The star of David is a set of 12 equilateral triangles. It is a 2-D representation of a Merkaba, hence its importance as a geometrical shape. It represents one’s ability to ascend to 33rd degree. It represents the 33 vertebrae of the spinal cord, which is where the kundalini or Serpent of Light (according to Drumvalo Melchizedek) can be activated during meditation. The star of David is also a representation of the star tetrahedron (which is exactly the same shape as the Merkaba). The star tetrahedron has an important number encoded in it. Lots of numbers actually. But the main one is 19.47 – the latitude within the sphere (if the shape was to be inscribed in a sphere) where the corners would touch the sphere.


 This is why 19.47 is important, and the sin and cos and tan of 19.47 are also important. As it turns out, the sin of 19.47 is 0.3333. Jupiter’s red spot is at 19.47 degrees, and so is Neptune’s dark spot and the location of the Mayan ruins on Earth.  This shape also encodes the principle “as above, so below.”

 The sun has a diameter of 864,000 miles, which is 108 * 8000. The precession cycle of 25,920 years is exactly divisible by 108.

 There are exactly 108 * 800 seconds in a day. The second was known to the ancient Egyptians who built the pyramids because the speed of light, in meters per second, is encoded in the latitude of the Great Pyramid! Check it out for yourself.


 


An equilateral triangle is 60-60-60 (“666″ = number of the beast in the Bible). This produces 216,000. Multiply by 4 and you get the solar diameter in miles again. We divide the days into 60 seconds and 60 minutes. We divide the circle into 360 degrees (60 * 60). And guess what? 216,000 / 2,000? It’s 108! The number of the pentagon.

Each zodiacal sign (there are 12) = 2160/2161 years * 12 (zodiacal signs) = 25,920/25,932, the precession cycle.



 The precession of the equinoxes is caused by the gravitational forces of the Sun and the Moon, and to a lesser extent other bodies, on the Earth. It was first explained by Sir Isaac Newton.

There are opinions out there that suggest this coming 'winter solstice' (21st Dec) will also see a particular alignment of certain heavenly bodies...the galactic core(black hole) , the sun & the earth will apparently be in an alignment.  (I'm not a scientist, so I can't vouch for the acurracy of these statements...I just know these ideas are out there in the 'meme' sense.)

Scientists have noted that the positions of Jupiter and Saturn on December 21, 2012 is ideal for extreme solar activity.  (Again as before, I'm not a scientist etc, as above)

Answer for a frequently asked question: Why is the position of Saturn and Jupiter ideal for extreme solar activity? Well, it is because the angular momentum of large planets (Jupiter and Saturn are the two biggest in our solar system) effects solar activity. This is because the two planets have a pulling effect on the sun.

 Eventually, the field lines work their way to the surface of the sun because the concentrated magnetic flux is more buoyant than the surrounding solar surface. 2001:ASO...Jupiter & Saturn, both feature as a monolith reference point, Jupiter (film) and Saturn (the book).  Book/Film...The most notable differences are a change in the destination planet from Saturn to Jupiter, and the nature of the sequence of events leading to HAL's demise.

So someone else seems to think that the conjunction of Jupiter & Saturn, seem have a noticeable effect!!!

The action leaps ahead in what Clarke calls "the longest flash-forward in the history of movies"– three million years ("millions of years of evolution right?" Alice Eyes Wide Shut), to 2001, when a manned moon base uncovers a Monolith not unlike that which woke our ancestors from their bestial slumber in prehistoric Africa. It is, like its prehistoric brother, black, featureless, light-absorbent and an utter mystery. After emitting a startling radio signal aimed at Jupiter, it falls silent.

An interesting and possibly revealing choice of name.

So what if we postulate the idea that Set (who smited Osiris, who at one time was a living God/King) was in fact, a meteor/comet/asteroid of sorts (at least in part, post-deified as one)...quite possibly the one that caused the 'biblical flood' of Genesis.  Set the 'comet/asteroid' was on a collision course with earth and in doing so interfered with the sun (Osiris) on it's passage through...this comet/asteroid then smashed into the planet and caused a mass extinction event.  This event led to the atmosphere being 'blackened' and therefore 'blackening' the sun (Osiris) albeit, temporarily.  After a time...through the sun being reborn (a dissapation of the fogged atmosphere) as Horus...Set was ultimately revenged against and the sun (Osiris) was reborn as Horus (the new sun, reborn).  This all ultimately became the 'death and rebirth cycle' religion for Egypt and its dynasties.  Set (or Set'an/Satan...the writhing firey celestial serpent) in smashing into the planet and casuing havoc for a while, ultimately became extinguished via the earth, as an asteroid would, over time.

I raise this only due to the fact that 'creationist' events are constantly being used as propaganda in the entertainment world....from Deep Impact, Armaggedon, Day the Earth Stood Still, 2012 etc etc etc.  Of course, we don't have to accept that at face value, as it is possible that it could be a allusion to something else or a playing up of 'fear mongering' to sell product to the masses....take your pick.

Don't take this as some form of gospel and that its time to build that asteroid proof bunker...I am merely postulating from the data.  It had to be mentioned, but let's not turn it into a 'doom porn' excursion!

Personally, I am loathe to put dates and forecasts into this type of thing...please undertsand that I am trying to decipher the 'general meme' aspects, generated by this type of media product. The OSU SETI program gained fame on August 15, 1977 when Jerry Ehman, a project volunteer, witnessed a startlingly strong signal received by the telescope. He quickly circled the indication on a printout and scribbled the phrase “Wow!” in the margin. Dubbed the Wow! signal, it is considered by some to be the best candidate for a radio signal from an artificial, extraterrestrial source ever discovered, but it has not been detected again in several additional searches.

 He (Ehman) later recanted his skepticism somewhat, after further research showed an Earth-borne signal to be very unlikely, due to the requirements of a space-borne reflector being bound to certain unrealistic requirements to sufficiently explain the nature of the signal.  Also, the 1420 MHz signal is problematic in itself in that it is "protected spectrum": it is bandwidth in which terrestrial transmitters are forbidden to transmit due to it being reserved for astronomical purposes.  In his most recent writings, Ehman resists "drawing vast conclusions from half-vast data"—acknowledging the possibility that the source may have been military in nature or otherwise may have been a production of Earth-bound humans.

 I've picked out the two 666 references from both messages!!!
The Wow signal (666) and the intercepted message (666) sent into space in Twin Peaks.  I've also referenced the little star, um I mean dwarf, from the 'redroom' saying Wow, Bob, Wow.  Twin Peaks...star maps, intercepted signal between earth & space, 666...the 'wow' reference...it's all seems relevant and there is a crossover imo!

The Wow signal was picked up in the constellation of Sagittarius...which we saw earlier in reference to the galactic centre and archer/bowman.

The vehicle in which Ellie Arroway travels through the wormhole system is a sphere surrounded by a dodecahedron, the fourth Platonic solid. This beautiful figure with twelve pentagonal faces was considered by some Greek philosophers to represent the structure of the Universe. This 'wormhole/stargate' sequence is obviously very evocative of the similar trip, that Bowman experiences in his own 'stargate sequece' 2001.

Bowman's trip through the 'stargate' occurs exactly 1,111 seconds (11-11) before the end of the film...the entire span of that sequence is 18m 31s (1,111 seconds).


This is solid and can be easily verified by anyone...the span is exactly 1,111 seconds, of that there is no doubt.

The source of the message in Contact originates from the Vega system...It is known as Alpha Lyrae, being the brightest star in the constellation of Lyra the Lyre. This was a stringed instrument, like a harp. Legend says the lyre was invented by the Greek god Hermes (called Mercury by the Romans, Thoth by the Egyptians) as a gift to his half-brother, Apollo. He in turn gave it to Orpheus, the musician of the Argonauts.
This star has had a long and prominent affect on human history and astronomy. The Babylonians called it the Messenger of Light. To the Assyrians, it was the Judge of Heaven. Contact premiered in early July when Vega was at its peak, a nice touch.




The VLA (Very Large Array) New Mexico

 It is tecnically not used for Seti purposes according to Wiki, but this is technically incorrect.

In 1987 and again in 1989 Robert Gray led Wow! signal searches using the 26-metre radio telescope of the Planetary Society-funded META array at the Oak Ridge Observatory in Massachusetts, but found nothing.
Gray also managed to secure the services of the entire Very Large Array (VLA) in New Mexico, composed of 27 25-metre dishes. This, according to Gray, was a first: "Contrary to popular belief since the movie Contact," he emphasizes, "the prestigious $80 million telescope hardly ever listens for broadcasts from the stars."

Researchers reported they'd seen a particle weighing roughly 125 times the mass of the proton, with a level of certainty that all but seals the deal it's the Higgs boson. The Higgs represents the last undiscovered particle predicted by the Standard Model, the reigning theory of particle physics.

Physicists involved in two experiments called CMS and ATLAS taking place at the world's largest particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), reported evidence of the particle at a seminar and press briefing today.
