I'll take you for a walk...

Under The Sycamore Tree

Series Finale
Twin Peaks...Glaston-bury Grove...Groves are sacred to druids.

My bad...lets not forget Mark Frost's massive contribution...a lot of esoteric ideas came from his pen!!!

The Egyptian & Druid...'one and the same' (essentially) and they both revered Thoth/Hermes and to both of them, trees were sacred.  David Lynch has 'shoe-horned' in so many 'tree-like' references within Twin Peaks...that to call him 'Druid-like', wood be a massive understatement. (pun intended).

Palm-er
Sycamore
Douglas Firs
Logging Trucks
Saw-Mill
'Great Northern' decor is almost like living inside a tree.
The Log Lady (& husband soul absorbed into the log)
Josie's death (absorbed into a wooden knob)
Ghostwood
The Woods (general, an evil presence etc)
Glastonbury Grove
Chopping Wood (literally)
Log cabin(s)
Pine Weasel/Pine Float

etc...you get the idea.

Not that it was 'only trees' that were being constantly referenced, you understand...amongst others were 'circles''birds' and 'fire' etc.

12 Sycamore Trees (Glastonbury Grove)...12 Zodiacal signs, 12 Knights of the Round Table (Zodiac).

The petroglyph

The entrance
The Doorway (above mid-left) to The Red Room (Waiting Room/White/Black Lodges) Can Be
Entered Physically When Jupiter and Saturn are Aligned.

2001:ASO...Jupiter & Saturn, both feature as a monolith reference point, Jupiter (film) and Saturn (the book).  Book/Film...The most notable differences are a change in the destination planet from Saturn to Jupiter, and the nature of the sequence of events leading to HAL's demise.

Finale...Beyond Life and Death.

Part 1

Part 2

Good luck trying to make sense out of all that...lol.

Here is some of my take on the 'sycamore' and how it relates to mythology...particularly Egyptian.

"In the meantime, the body of Osiris in its coffin floats out to sea and comes ashore in Byblos, where a sycamore tree (see Plutarch) sprouts and encases the coffin. Isis hears of this and goes to reclaim her husband's body, which -- after some trouble -- she succeeds in doing. She hides his remains and goes to find their son, Horus, but in the meantime Set finds the body and, fearing the new healing powers of Isis, cuts it up into 14 pieces and scatters them far and wide."   (note, sometimes this tree is referenced as a tamarisk).

(a tradition kept alive in masonry...'lodges'...the intitiate is encased in a coffin to re-enact this symbolic  death/rebirth 'The 3rd Degree' etc...the legend of hiram abiff/osiris/the sun)

Note...that the tree here is Acacia and relates to Horus, who is born out of Osiris symbolically. Isis impregnates (using the magic of Thoth)...and bares Horus.

Leland's multiple symbolic death and rebirth...sorry it's a foreign language, but it'll do.

Eventually, Isis is able to recover 13 of the pieces, leaving a shrine at every place she found one. The 14th piece -- his genitals --(symbolised by the obelisk, there is a big one in DC, its a symbolic penis) was, however, eaten by fish.  Still, Isis manages to reassemble Osiris and, with the help of Thoth, Anubis and Nephythys, they manage to resurrect him, at which point he becomes the God of the Underworld, or God of the Dead, and takes his place in the heavens as the constellation Orion. At the time, Orion set at sunrise on the winter solstice, thereby symbolically entering the Underworld, to be reborn as he rises heliacally on the summer solstice.

According to the Book of Dead, twin sycamores stood at the eastern gate of heaven from which the sun god Re emerged each morning. The sycamore was also regarded as a manifestation of the goddesses Nut (Sky), Isis, and especially ofHathor, who was given the epithet Lady of the Sycamore. (Miss Twin Peaks/Annie/Hathor Graham) Sycamores were often planted near tombs, and burial (Glaston-bury) in coffins made of sycamore wood returned the dead person to the womb of the mother tree goddess.

Stanley Kubrick requested to be buried under his favourite tree...probably because he WAS a DRUID.

Hathor is commonly depicted as a cow goddess with head horns in which is set a sun disk with Uraeus(serpent).

Lady of the Sycamore...Hathor/Isis

"Since Isis was paired with Horus, and Horus was identified with Ra, Isis began to be merged with Hathor as Isis-Hathor. By merging with Hathor, Isis became the mother of Horus, as well as his wife. Eventually the mother role displaced the role of spouse. Thus, the role of spouse to Isis was open and in the Heliopolis pantheon, Isis became the wife of Osiris and the mother of Horus/Ra. This reconciliation of themes led to the evolution of the myth of Isis and Osiris."

Annie (Miss Twin Peaks/Queen) could be a 'lady of the sycamore' (for obvious reasons, she gets taken into the grove and pulled through the doorway/wormhole) played by Hathor Graham.  As a Queen, she could also symbolically represent the queen of the underworld aka Isis.

Windom Earle parks the truck in the woods at Glastonberry Grove. He introduces himself to Annie and pulls her from the truck. She recites prayers to herself as he leads her to the grove. He tells her they have an appointment at the end of the world; he pulls her in to the circle of trees, then leads her past the white circle. She walks in an apparent trance. Earle leads her through red curtains that appear behind the trees. They vanish.

Miss Twin Peaks - Annie - Heather/Hathor Graham - Isis

Major Garland Briggs...The 'Heywood Floyd' of Twin Peaks.

The Egyptian’s Holy Sycamore stood on the threshold of life and death, connecting the worlds.

Obviously...In Twin Peaks the 'grove' is a portal/gateway/wormwhole to another world...the white lodge and the black lodge.  So all this is making perfect sense.

"One chants out between two worlds" (connecting the worlds, as outlined above)

The earth plane & the etheric plane...two worlds.
This chant seems just like a 'call' (vibrational) and in the magickal sense.

Lodge waiting room. (So we're told, but it could actually be the Black Lodge.)

In fact, it IS the Black Lodge...Windom (via Sarah) notifies Briggs that he is in the Black Lodge with Cooper and as we already know (via) Hawk...every 'soul' on it's way to perfection, must first pass through the Black Lodge!  Therefore the Black Lodge is the starting point for ALL who attempt to make it to the White Lodge (cross the abyss to spiritual perfection).

Why would Bob and his gang be there if this was the White Lodge?
The Black Lodge dwarf...was lying about it being a 'waiting room'...imo.

We only get to see Cooper in the Black Lodge (in this episode).  He fails the test and his fear (running away from his doppelganger, instead of confronting him with love) prevents him from accesing the 'White Lodge' which could only be entered using 'love' to open the door.

Seeing as though the Sycamore is a tree, it could be taken as yet another reference to the 'tree of life' and therefore conversely, death!  (life/death...white lodge/black lodge...good/evil)

Tree of life = sephiroth   tree of death = qliphoth....qabala/kabbala folks.

The diagram to the right and the middle point between the 2 trees...'malkuth/lilith' could be the portal/gateway starting point.  This 'gateway' is mentioned in the final episode.

In the final episdoe...Cooper hears an owl, sees the circle of trees and the white circle of rocks, looks down at the oil and says, “an opening to a gateway.”

The sycamore can also be viewed as a rendition of Isis...and in art she was sometimes portrayed this way.

Horus 'suckling' Isis who is manifested as a Sycamore.

Mural...Isis, who appears in the holy sycamore tree. Workmen's Tombs (13th BCE), Deir el-Medina, Egypt.

DREAM A LITTLE DREAM OF ME

Stars shiningbright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper "I love you"
Birdssinging in thesycamore trees
Dream a little dream of me

Say nighty-night and kiss me
Just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me
While I'm alone and blue as can be
Dream a little dream of me

Stars fading but I linger on dear
Still craving your kiss
I'm longing to linger till dawn dear
Just saying this

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you
But in your dreams whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me

Stars shining up above you
Night breezes seem to whisper "I love you"
Birds singing in the sycamore trees
Dream a little dream of me

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you
But in your dreams whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me

Yes, dream a little dream of me.

'The Sycamore' and the 'bright shining star' (Sirius) of Isis/Hermes/Thoth.
Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky.

Sirius A (Giant) & B (the dwarf)...B is the 'speck' lower left...One & the same. (binary)

"The Sirius double stars (binary system) orbit in ellipses about one another"
A 'ring like' ellipse...and Peaks is full of circular references.

The Giant and the Dwarf...ok so admittedly the Dwarf is a 'red dwarf' (which alternatively, is a type of star) but I reckon this can cut the other way.  Also note, this is just one interpretation, of a multiple of layers...the Giant aspect also relates to the Great Northern waiter 'Droolcup'...one and the same, the waiter is also a vessel for the Giant to communicate with Cooper.

Sirius, Canis Major/Minor...the dog star, perhaps even 'the black dog star' seeing as though it is a sign of portent, historically.

The Black Dog (Sirius) Runs At Night.
Which obviously it does, through the night sky.

Stars shiningbright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper "I love you"
Birdssinging in thesycamore trees
Dream a little dream of me

Cooper's Dream:  "Where we're from, the birds sing a pretty song and there's always music in the air."
MFAP/Dwarf - Twin Peaks series   "Birdssinging in thesycamore trees"
(I know in the series, this (in a literal sense) is referenced to the phonograph at Jacques cabin, but this piece is attempting to unpick layers of meaning, just so you know.)

All this talk of 'stars' and 'planets' is completely within the remit of the programme...the first thing you notice when Cooper enters the 'Black Lodge' is a statue depicting 'Venus' and then we get an actual representation of Saturn in the room....add in Jupiter and that is 3 planets that have been referenced, in the space of a few mninutes!!!

Saturn Lamp - Black Lodge

Dreams

 "A dream...we live inside a DREAM."
Philip Jeffries/David Bowie - Fire Walk With Me

"In dreams I walk with you, In dreams I talk to you,
In dreams you're mine all of the time, We're together in dreams, in dreams."
Frank - Orbison's In Dreams, Blue Velvet

"A place beyond your dreams."  Also Paul's multiple 'dream sequences' related to the moon/spice etc
Dune

"I had a dream about this place."(plus the 'Winkies' OZ connection)
Dan (Diane) @ the Diner, Mulholland Drive

"I mean I just came here from Deep River, Ontario, and now I'm in this dream place."
Betty Elms (for the wood connection) Mulholland Drive

Dream sequence that begins the film...
The Elephant Man

Fred: "I had a dream last night."
Lost Highway

 'Henry's dream sequence'
Eraserhead

This dream stuff is turning into a bit of a nightmare...lol. Ok...so you get the point, I could go on, but won't.

Lynch talks to US in 'Dreams'...that is what his work does (in part, at least) it communicates with our 'dream logic centre' our 'subconscious'...I think so, at least.

Glastonbury Grove

The King Arthur connection is interesting....Avalon, according to a certain scholar could be a phonic echo of Afalon...deriving from welsh for the apple.  This puts it into the realms of Eden, for obvious reasons and we're back again to the tree...the 'tree of knowledge' Genesis...or Gene of Isis, if you prefer.

Geoffrey of Monmouth called it in Latin Insula Avallonis in the Historia. In the later Vita Merlini he called it Insula Pomorum the "isle of apples". The name is generally considered to be of Welsh origin (though an Old Cornish or Old Breton origin is also possible), derived from Old Welsh abal, "apple", or aball, "apple tree" (in later Middle Welsh spelled aval, avall; now Modern Welsh afal, afall).

Re: Arthur....have a look at this from Comyns Beaumont, found in his brilliant work 'The Riddle of Pre-Historic Britain'...relating Arthur to Osiris.

Grove as in Druid's Grove, tree worshippers etc.

Now you know why there is apyramid stage at the yearly Glastonbury Festival.

It all makes symbolic sense.

Briggs being depicted as King Arthur/Osiris

hence...

“which way to the castle?”(Camelot)

The bones of "Arthur" were said to be extremely large in size and the skull they found had, among many wounds, a large "gash," suggesting death by a blow to the head. (hence Briggs' wounded head).

"Through the darkness of future past, the magician longs to see. One chants out between two worlds: 'Fire Walk With Me.  We lived among the people - I think you say convenience store? We lived above it. I mean it like it is, as it sounds. My name is Mike. His name is BOB."

Note....This above quote...was from the first series.
The 'convenience store scene' was from the movie FWWM.

Living 'above it' (above, below) perhaps meaning not of this physical world, but who knows?

The Convenience Store Scene - 7-11 or Circle K?

"This is a Formica table, green is its color"...

This is a for-mica (rock/stone) table(t)
A green rock based table/tablet.

Emerald is it's color and there is a small circular section of table top, which is cut out.

"With this (magickal) ring I thee wed"

The 'ring' that denotes a life due to be sacrificed...and a 'ring' that ensures that the Garmonbozia (the victims pain & suffering in food form) will be collected and delivered to the appropriate 'magickian/entity' for consumption in a psychic manner.  The bowls and pans on the table in the first pic above contain Garmonbozia (like creamed corn).

So maybe the table(t) is referring to the 'green rock' of the Emerald Tablet.

But it's a table, not a tablet you decry...
The Emerald Tablet is frequently referred to as the Emerald Table...by the likes of Manly P Hall etc.

"Among the fragmentary writings believed to have come from the stylus of Hermes are two famous works. The first is the Emerald Table, and the second is the Divine Pymander, or, as it is more commonly called, The Shepherd of Men, a discussion of which follows. One outstanding point in connection with Hermes is that he was one of the few philosopher-priests of pagandom upon whom the early Christians did not vent their spleen. Some Church Fathers went so far as to declare that Hermes exhibited many symptoms of intelligence, and that if he had only been born in a more enlightened age so that he might have benefited by their instructions he would have been a really great man!"
Manly P Hall, The Secret Teaching of All Ages

"The name Hermes is derived from "Herm," a form of CHiram (CRM), the Personified Universal Life Principle, generally represented by fire. The Scandinavians worshiped Hermes under the name of Odin; the Teutons as Wotan, and certain of the Oriental peoples as Buddha, or Fo. There are two theories concerning his demise. The first declares that Hermes was translated like Enoch and carried without death into the presence of God, the second states that he was buried in the Valley of Ebron and a great treasure placed in his tomb--not a treasure of gold but of books and sacred learning."
Manly P Hall, The Secret Teaching of All Ages

Hence...

This picture with the car...seen when Cooper visits the trailer park to investigate what happened to Agent Desmond (Chris Isaac), who himself has been transported to another place after picking up the magickal ring there and then he is on the missing list.  Well they find his car left like this (after he vanishes into the ether) and with the 'Let's Rock' tag written on it.

This connects the ring and the car (with tag) together...the 'rock ring' made from the missing chunk of the formica table(t)/emerald tablet.

Rock as in (For)Mica...Rock.

In fact, just the sheer 'nerdy-ness' of mentioning that it's made of Formica, seems to suggest that mind should perhaps be paid to this.

The mineral mica was commonly used at that time for electrical insulation. Because the new product acted as a substitute “for mica”, Faber coined the name “Formica”.

The Emerald Table(t) of Twin Peaks.

The mica group of sheet silicate (phyllosilicate) minerals includes several closely related materials having close to perfect basal cleavage. All are monoclinic, with a tendency towards pseudohexagonal crystals, and are similar in chemical composition. The nearly perfect cleavage, which is the most prominent characteristic of mica, is explained by the hexagonal sheet-like arrangement of its atoms.
The word "mica" is derived from the Latin word mica, meaning "a crumb", and probably influenced by micare, "to glitter".
Muscovite, the principal mica used by the electrical industry, is used in capacitors that are ideal for high frequency and radio frequency...(you get the idea, I'm sure!)

(Horseloverphat....perhaps a transmitter & a receiver!)

"Electricity"....and an 'opening of the mouth' moment.
There is an aspect where these 'lodge inhabitants' perhaps travel (astral/etehric) via electrcity.

Pyramid of the Sun (Mexico City)
The pyramid contained considerable amounts of mica in layers up to 30 cm (12 in) thick.

See the full scene here...

I like how Lynch used David Bowie in this particular scene...his persona being charged with the ideas of 'fallen gods' (The Man Who Fell to Earth, Ziggy Stardust from Mars etc).  I don't think this was just a random choice of actor.

An epsidode in season 2 directly related to the above 'convenience store' scene and a few of the same protaganists also feature, as does reference to 'magick' and 'the garmonbozia'.

COMA -Season 2 Episode 2 (directed by David Lynch)

David Lynch's own son sychronistically plays a 'magickian'!!!

Mmmm...yum, yum Garmonbozia, psychic 'pain & suffering' to be consumed.
Lynch's own son...playing the magickian, note this 'magickian'role is played by someone else in the 'convenience store' scene in the film.

Before the episode begins proper...we get the following:

Check out this 'log lady' intro from this episode...I can't say I was at all surprised to find it!!!
Relevant due to the fact that it heavily relates to the mysterious 'convenience store' scene we just mentioned.

 Log Lady(intro):

"As above, so below."The human being finds himself, or herself, in the middle. There is as much space outside the human, proportionately, as inside. Stars, moons and planets remind us of protons, neutrons and electrons. Is there a bigger being walking with all the stars within? Does our thinking affect what goes on outside us and what goes on inside us? I think it does. Where does creamed corn figure into the workings of the universe? What really is creamed corn? Is it a symbol for something else?

The first maxim on the Emerald Tablet of Thoth/Hermes...As above, so below.
Microcosm & Macrocosm, as explained in the intro above.

It cannot get anymore BLATANT than that.

The Dialogue from the Conveience Store...TP:FWWM.

FIRST WOODSMAN (subtitled) We have desended from pure air.
 (the ether..is probably the reference!)

MAN FROM ANOTHER PLACE (subtitled) Going up and down. Intercourse between the two worlds. (as above, so below)

BOB (subtitled) Light of new discoveries.  (we're about to make one!)

MRS. TREMOND (subtitled) Why not be composed of materials and combinations of atoms?
(probably meaning the table, perhaps and it's about to get mentioned and also we're told that IT is no accident, seeing this table...they're showing it to US!)

MRS. TREMOND'S GRANDSON (subtitled) This is no accident.
(of course not, or why bother to film it)

MAN FROM ANOTHER PLACE (subtitled) This is a formica table. Green is its color.  He touches the table.  (we've done that one!)

FIRST WOODSMAN (subtitled) Our world.  (the table/tablet is their world)

MAN FROM ANOTHER PLACE (subtitled) With chrome. And everything will proceed cyclically.
(perhaps the metallic aspect of the ring, which they've fashioned from the table/tablet?)

SECOND WOODSMAN (subtitled) Boneless.
(perhaps a reference to an etheric body, boneless)

MIKE (subtitled) Yes, find the middle place. Bob begins to scream with anger.
(between heaven & earth...our plane 0f existance)

BOB (subtitled) I HAVE THE FURY OF MY OWN MOMENTUM.
(he's a pissed entity!)

TREMOND'S GRANDSON (subtitled) Fell a victim.
(request for a new kill victim...for harvesting garmonbozia/pain & suffering.

The Man From Another Place raises his hand.

MAN FROM ANOTHER PLACE (subtitled)  With this ring, I thee wed.
(a contract, using the ring to bind the parties)

Bob claps his hand and a circle of fire appears in the room.

BOB (subtitled) Fire Walk With Me.

THROUGH THE CIRCLE We see the RED ROOM.
ON THE SCENE Bob crawls into the Red Room and MFAP starts to yell and leaps in after him.

(a couple of bits in there are from the shooting script and were left out of the finished (cut) film, but they are relevant.)

Red Rum (The Shining) - Red Room (Twin Peaks)
The phonetics of rum, could be room, as in rumour.
There is 'backwards writing' in The Shining (REDRUM) and 'backwards talking' in the RED-ROOM.

The Navajo (The Shining) inspired American Indian...Hawk (wasn't Horus a Hawk?)

Dweller on the Threshold

Deputy Tommy 'Hawk' Hill: My people believe that the White Lodge is a place where the spirits that rule man and nature reside. There is also a legend of a place called the Black Lodge. The shadow self of the White Lodge. Legend says that every spirit must pass through there on the way to perfection. There, you will meet your own shadow self. My people call it The Dweller on the Threshold.(TDOTT)

Special Agent Dale Cooper: Dweller on the Threshold.

Deputy Tommy 'Hawk' Hill: But it is said that if you confront the Black Lodge with imperfect courage, it will utterly annihilate your soul.

Earle & Hawk both mention 'the lodges' (as does Briggs) and it seems to contain the essence of some of what I've been talking about on this blog.

Episode Season 2. Eps 20 (1991)

Windom Earle: These evil sorcerers, dugpas, they call them, cultivate evil for the sake of evil and nothing else. They express themselves in darkness for darkness, without leavening motive. This ardent purity has allowed them to access a secret place of great power, where the cultivation of evil proceeds in exponential fashion. And with it, the furtherance of evil's resulting power. These are not fairy tales, or myths. This place of power is tangible, and as such, can be found, entered, and perhaps, utilized in some fashion. The dugpas have many names for it, but chief among them is the Black Lodge... But you don't believe me, do you? You think I'm mad. Overworked. Go away.

Windom Earle: The planets (Jupiter & Saturn) our babbling major spoke of are more than distant orbs. They are, in fact, a clock. A clock that tells the time. And the time... Time draws nearer with each ticking tock! Dale wasn't far wrong. The cave painting is an invitation of sorts, telling us when the revels begin. But what Dale doesn't know is where to find it. For you see, the cave painting is not only an invitation, it is also a map... a map to the Black Lodge!

Earle ahas a fascination with the Black Lodge, whose secrets he is trying to unlock, as well as black magicMajor Garland Briggs states that Earle was involved in Project Blue Book, as was Briggs; however, their investigation in which Earle was involved was directly related to Twin Peaks and not the usual UFO investigations.

Earle mentions the 'black lodge' in this episdoe and says...

[Windom Earle has Major Briggs tide up to a target mat with a crossbow aimed at him]
The arrow of Windom (Apollo) attempting to slay the cyclops (bulls-eye).
Briggs posed as Osiris/Arthur slain.

Windom Earle: When did you first see the symbol in Owl Cave?
Major Briggs: I'm not at liberty to divulge that information.
Windom Earle: Cheater!
[Windom fires an arrow at Briggs, missing his head by inches]
Windom Earle: What does the cave painting mean?
Major Briggs: [more firm tone] I'm not at liberty to divulge that information.
Windom Earle: Damn, but I love the military mind.

The sephiroth/qliphoth does seem comparable to the dual white/black lodge concept (in the spiritual sense)...the 'entropic' nature of the 'qliphoth' lending itself quite nicely to the domain of Bob & friends...their purpose seemingly being...feeding off the cultivation of suffering.

 Briggs disappears and/or is abducted.

This sudden abduction is highly reminiscent of the reports of alien abductions throughout recent history, and that resemblance might help to explain why it is that the Major studies deep space communications as a part of his classified Intelligence work.

I talked earlier about the 'Heywood Floyd' of Twin Peaks Major Garland (Judy) Briggs, well after he gets seemingly abducted or goes through a portal...he finally comes back a few days later and is totally bewildered etc and this tattoo is then discovered on his neck, but with no explanation.

Briggs Neck Tattoo...Mark of Choronzon

I have yet to see anyone reference the 3 triangle symbol on Briggs' neck as the symbol of the 'Demon of the Abyss'/'Dweller on the Threshold'...generally known as Choronzon.  Briggs' tattoo is identical to the symbol of Choronzon.  Choronzon is mentioned in the workings of Elizabethan John Dee (007) & Kelley with repsect to Enochian magick.

briefly...
On the 'tree of life' Choronzon represents the Guardian of the the 2nd veil, who resides in the sphere of Daath.  (I think comparisons can be made with 'the tree of life'/'tree of death' or 'sephiroth/qliphoth' and the 'White Lodge'/'Black Lodge' of Twin Peaks.)

Crowley states:
This doctrine is extremely difficult to explain; but it corresponds more or less to the gap in thought between the Real, which is ideal, and the Unreal, which is actual. In the Abyss all things exist, indeed, at least in posse, but are without any possible meaning; for they lack the substratum of spiritual Reality. They are appearances without Law. They are thus Insane Delusions. (like Brigg's probably during his experience and he certainly displays himself like this, after the event!)

Just wanted to point out that Briggs is marked with the symbol of Choronzon...well that is one possible interpretation at least.
The fact that Briggs is heavily connected to 'Project Bluebook' dealing with ufo/extra-terrestrial (demonic?) contact is a key point imo...especially when connected with 'magick' and 'demons'..for if you look into Crowley's contact with the entity 'Lam' (Tibetan for 'way' or 'path' and Twin Peaks is stuffed with Tibetan mysticism).  It is 'Lam' the 'praeter-human' entity that bears more than just a glancing similarity to the classic UFO occupant...AKA 'the alien grey'.

Crowley's Lam (or shadow self) and The Great Wizard 'entity from OZ'.

We have Hawk, waxing lyrical about 'TDOTT' and meeting your shadow self (arguably Choronzon could be the shadow self) which bears many similarities to the Qabalistic apsects of 'crossing the abyss'...something that can be thought of as akin to a form of 'ego death'.

Aleister Crowley further altered and popularized the term in certain occult circles, referring to a "Brother of the Left-Hand Path," or a "Black Brother," as one who failed to attain the grade of Magister Templi in Crowley's system of ceremonial magic.  Crowley also referred to the Left-Hand Path when describing the point at which the Adeptus Exemptus (such as his old Christian mentor, Macgregor Mathers) chooses to cross the Abyss, which is the location of Choronzon and the illusory eleventh Sephira, which is Da'ath or Knowledge. In this example, the adept must surrender all, including the guidance of his Holy Guardian Angel, and leap into the Abyss. If his accumulated Karma is sufficient, and if he has been utterly thorough in his own self-destruction, he becomes a "babe of the abyss," arising as a Star in the Crowleyan system. On the other hand, if he retains some fragment of ego, or if he fears to cross, he then becomes encysted. The layers of his self, which he could have shed in the Abyss, ossify around him. He is then titled a "Brother of the Left-Hand Path," who will eventually be broken up and disintegrated against his will, since he failed to choose voluntary disintegration.  Crowley associated all this with "Mary, a blasphemy against BABALON," and with the celibacy of Christian clergy.

A brief aside and an easy example to understand...

Darth Vader = Da'ath Evader (a play on words)

A 'Black Brother' (literally) and 'Brother of the Left-Hand path'.
In some definitions, the 'Left-Hand Path' is equated with malicious Black Magic.

Back on track now...

This is important due to the nature of the story at this point and the obvious allusion that Briggs went on some sort of metaphysical journey...perhaps 'The White Lodge' but who knows? Perhaps Briggs met his shadow self and defeated it, because he has to travel through the black lodge to get to the white lodge, in order attain perfection (as outlined by Hawk).  This is unlike what happens with Cooper who fails, I like to think that Briggs passed his test and defeated the black lodge.  Briggs greatest fear in the world was the 'possibility that love wasn't enough'...which imo singled him out as a particularly special character...at least to me anyway.
When considering Choronzon...we are in the realm of Qabala and its various alternative spellings, no pun intended.

Cooper: "Two 'symbols' combined into a larger whole."

The other mysterious symbol/glyph...also seen inside 'Owl Cave' and Cooper's drawing, made up of Tattoo's from Briggs (although it also relates to the abyss, as seen earlier) & The Log Lady.

This is also part referenced in 'the emerald ring'...as you can see and also inside 'owl cave'

All this Qabala, brings me nicely...to a familiar & seemingly potent 'qabalistic number' and 'magick number of the sun'.

We're still in the same episode...Coma.

666

We also learn that the messages that the Major shared with Cooper (“The owls are not what they seem” and “CooperCooperCooper” written over and over) originated from the woods around Twin Peaks – the very location that’s been the focal point of the figurative and literal 'heart of darkness' in this town. The suggestion is that these signals came from earth and were sent up into space – a reversal of the sorts of “extraterrestrial transmission” into earth that we typically see in films and TV.

(The 3 Cooper's could be 'The Typical Dale', 'The Doppelganger Dale' and finally the 'Bob, Possessed Dale'.) Three incarnations of Dale...Cooper/Cooper/Cooper, the message probably came from the Black Lodge in the woods (as Briggs states, from the wood and into space) and possibly a 'message' from the 'lodge inhabitants' to their masters/helpers in the ether.  The main prize being the possession of FBI Agent Dale Cooper...a plan being designed all along etc.

 666

After his 'abduction/portal crossing' return (Season 2 Eps#9)....Cooper and Truman (Sheriff) try to communicate with the Major, even calling him by his first name, Garland, though Briggs mistakes that as a reference to Judy Garland...a nice tie-in to The Wizard of Oz, that Oz theme is 'done to death' in Lynch's Wild at Heart and I'm sure you're aware of the 'emerald' elements involved with the Oz mythos.

In his navajo/The Shining inspired wrap..."Judy Garland?"

The 'Real' Project Blue Book and William Garland:
"Another important change came when General William Garland joined Cabell's staff; Garland thought the UFO question deserved serious scrutiny because he had witnessed a UFO."  Perhaps this is one of the reasons that Lynch (or whoever) chose that name...the other being the 'Oz' connection.

Briggs jibbers...."Protect the queen" and "Fear and love open the doors."

Cooper figures it out: Two lodges, two doors. Fear opens the Black Lodge, love opens the White Lodge. He also realizes that protect the queen means Windom Earle probably is planning to abduct whoever wins the pageant.

The 'earth to space' message (dialogue) between Cooper & Briggs...which is suggestive of communication between the 'earth plane' and the 'etheric plane'.

COOPER
(called out) Who is it?

MAJOR BRIGGS

    It’s Major Briggs, Agent Cooper.

COOPER

    (called out) Just a moment.

COOPER puts his mini recorder on the bed and slowly stands up. COOPER makes his way over to the door, unlocks it and opens it.

COOPER

Major.

MAJOR BRIGGS

    May I come in?

COOPER

    Please.

MAJOR BRIGGS walks inside and COOPER shuts the door. MAJOR BRIGGS is dressed in his usual Air Force uniform. MAJOR BRIGGS holds his hat in his right hand with his jacket draped over his right arm. In his left hand, MAJOR BRIGGS carries a briefcase. COOPER walks over to MAJOR BRIGGS.

MAJOR BRIGGS

I have a message for you.

COOPER

    From whom?

MAJOR BRIGGS

I’m not at liberty to reveal the nature of my work. This secrecy pains me from time to time. Any bureaucracy that functions in secret inevitably lends itself to corruption. But these rules I have pledged to uphold. I believe a pledge is sacred.

COOPER

Speaking as a man and a fellow employee of the Federal Government, so do I.

MAJOR BRIGGS

Well, I may reveal this much: among my many tasks is the maintenance of deep space monitors aimed at galaxies beyond our own.

MAJOR BRIGGS places his hat and jacket on a nearby chair and lays his briefcase on the seat. MAJOR BRIGGS opens the briefcase.

MAJOR BRIGGS

We routinely receive various communications, space garbage, to decode and examine.

MAJOR BRIGGS takes a computer printout sheet out of his briefcase and holds it up in front of COOPER.

MAJOR BRIGGS

They look something like this ... radio waves and gibberish, Agent Cooper.

MAJOR BRIGGS looks down at the file and then back to COOPER.

MAJOR BRIGGS

Till Thursday night, Friday morning to be exact.

COOPER

Around the time I was shot.

MAJOR BRIGGS

The readout took us by surprise.

MAJOR BRIGGS runs his finger over the lines of random numbers and letters.

MAJOR BRIGGS

Row after row of gibberish and all of a sudden ...

MAJOR BRIGGS points to one line on the page and runs his finger over it as he reads it outloud.

MAJOR BRIGGS

The owls are not what they seem.

COOPER leans toward the printout to see for himself.

COOPER’S POV:

Through COOPER’S POV we FOCUS on a CLOSE-UP on the line of text that MAJOR BRIGGS points out. Amongst the random numbers and letters, one line reads:

    /K78/B676/G565/C454/N669/H6776/
    /THE/OWLS/ARE/NOT/WHAT/THEY/SEEM/
    /B789/W26/MN78/N78/H45/JR78/DP45/

BACK TO SCENE:

Amazed, COOPER looks up at MAJOR BRIGGS.

COOPER

Why did you bring this to me?

MAJOR BRIGGS

Because later in the morning ...

MAJOR BRIGGS flips the sheet over and points to one line amongst the gibberish of random numbers and letters. MAJOR BRIGGS runs his finger over the words as he reads them outloud.

MAJOR BRIGGS

    Cooper ... Cooper ... Cooper.

COOPER’S POV:

Through COOPER’S POV we FOCUS on a CLOSE-UP on the line of text that MAJOR BRIGGS points out. Amongst the random numbers and letters, one line reads:

BACK TO SCENE:

Perplexed, COOPER looks at MAJOR BRIGGS.

COOPER

My God.  (I could adlib that bit, My God...it's full of stars)

Look how close the following dialogue is between these two...below.

"I’m not at liberty to reveal the nature of my work."

Major Briggs...Blue Book 'extraterrestrial/ufo' phenomena etc

"I'm really not at liberty to discuss this..."

talking of Horne's...

"Talking of Jack"

"All work and no play make Ben and Jerry dull boys."

Who happen to own One Eyed Jack's...the whore store, where plenty of 'one eyed Jacks' get serviced by the ladies..even the Horne's horns get serviced.

One Eyed Jacks...One Eyed Jacob...The missing phallus of Osiris and/or a reference to Horus' torn out left eye.
And obviously a hat tip to Kubrick/Brando...the same profile head shot in both pics.

If it's revenge...then perhaps, the torn out eye of horus is more appropriate!

It was originally planned to be directed by Stanley Kubrick from a screenplay by Sam Peckinpah but studio disputes led to their replacement by Brando and Guy Trosper.

The same Brando from Apocalypse Now who played Colonel 'Osiris' Kurtz...the God King at the end of the Nile river...I mean the Nung river.

Oh and talking of 'one eye'

Nadine/Cyclops...missing left eye (of Horus). The curtain (veil) rail, the cotton buds and the oil dripping from Ed...a reference to the end episode and the 'curtains and the pool of oil' at the gateway/portal of Glastonbury Grove.

Twin Pyramids

Mount Si (the mountain from Twin Peaks) is a remnant of an oceanic plate volcano and the rocks are highly metamorphosed.

Mount Si figures prominently in a Prometheus story from the Snoqualmie tribe. According to the story it is the dead body of Snoqualm, the moon. Snoqualm had ordered that a rope of cedar bark be stretched between the earth and the sky. (sounds very similar to jacob's ladder imo).

But Fox and Blue Jay went up the rope and stole the sun from Snoqualm. Snoqualm chased them down the cedar rope, but it broke and he fell to his death. Fox then let the sun free in the sky and gave fire to the people (exactly as prometheus had, my emphasis!). A face like Snoqualm's is visible on the rocks near the summit.

The capstone/peaks could be a 'subliminal reference' to the creationist 'benben stone'.

Ben + Ben = Benben.
The painted design behind (with 2 saturns for eyes) 'the mouth'...resembles a capped pyramid/benben.

The Benben stone, named after the mound, was a sacred stone in the solar temple of Heliopolis. It was the location on which the first rays of the sun fell. It is thought to have been the prototype for later obelisks (Phallus of Osiris) and the capstones of the great pyramids were based on its design.

Just to reference a little 'cross-pollenation' between Lynch & Kubrick.

Twin Peaks & The Shining

Twin Peaks & The Shining
- Some other similarities -

Laura's Abuse

Of course Twin Peaks, in the main...is all about the 'systematic abuse cycle' of a young girl (since age of 12, I think?) Laura Palmer, via her father......a cycle that Leland also went through (See Leland's death scene), the abused becoming the abuser, the inter-generational cycle.

Leland (death scene)
"I was just a boy. I saw him in my dreams. He said he - he wanted to play.He opened me and I invited him and he came inside me."

"When he was inside, I didn’t knowand when he was gone I couldn’t remember. He made me do things, terrible things. He said he wanted lives, he wanted others. Others that they could use, like they used me."

I sure you'll appreciate the blatant sexual abuse allusions being made in the dialogue.

Danny's Abuse

Of course The Shining, in the main (subliminally)...is all about the systematic abuse of a young boy (since he started school) Danny Torrance, via his father.......a cycle that Jack could also have gone through (although we don't know) and would be a similar inter-generational cycle, as above.
See The Shining & 2001 Endings post for more on Danny's abuse.

 Danny (about Tony/Jack)
"It's like I go to sleep and he shows me things, but when I wake up, I can't remember everything."  (compare that with Leland's dialogue above!)

Jack (Maze chase)
"I'm coming (climax)Dan...I'm right behind you." (Jack's body position relative to Danny's during the sex act).

Twin Peaks Leland: "He said he wanted to play"
Twins The Shining: "Come and play with us Danny"

A 'cycle of abuse'...the motorcycle (hog) in Laura's 'all seeing eye'.
A 'cycle' until she sacrifices herself at the hands of Leland/Bob.

Danny's cycle of abuse and 'all seeing eye'....a 'forever cycle' until he stops it, by outwitting 'the source' in the maze...Jack/Tony.

Fire Walk With Me & The Shining - Scripted Hospital Endings (filmed , but deleted scenes)

FWWM
INT. HOSPITAL ROOM - NIGHT

A NURSE mops the sweat from Annie's forehead. Annie tries to get thru to her.
ANNIE My name is Annie. I've been with Laura and Dale. The good Dale is in the lodge and he can't leave. Write it in your diary.
(The nurse pats Annie's forehead and takes her hand.)
(We see  TERESA/LAURA'S RING on Annie's ring finger. The nurse gently slides the ring off Annie's finger.)
ANOTHER ROOM IN THE HOSPITAL The nurse enters. With an anticipatory smile, then a selfish laugh, she puts the ring on her finger.

THE SHINING

Removed scene...about 2 weeks after initial release.
 Shelley Duvall:
The manager visits her (Wendy), apologizes for what happened, and invites her to live with him. She doesn't say yes or no. Then he goes into the hallway of the hospital, passes in front of Danny, who is playing on the ground with some toys. When he gets near the exit, he stops and says, 'I almost forgot, I have something for you.' And he pulls from his pocket the yellow ball that the twins had thrown at Danny. It bounces twice (we spent a whole day filming so it would bounce the right way), Danny catches it, looks at it, then lifts his eyes towards the hotel manager, stupefied, realizing that throughout the story he was aware of the mystery of the hotel.

At that point...the film would've gone onto the lobby zoom shot and the pictures on the wall...fade out.

Phew...and for now, we'll leave it at that.

God help you...if you've not seen Twin Peaks.
